Questions about kefir

What is the difference between water kefir and milk kefir?

Which of the two is richer in probiotics?  Milk kefir is the richest, with over 50 different strains of bacteria and yeasts. While water kefir contains between 30 and 50.

Is milk kefir suitable for people with lactose intolerance?

Yes, milk kefir is easily digested by people with lactose intolerance, as it is mostly broken down during fermentation.

Can I use plant-based milk?

No, plant-based milk does not encourage optimal fermentation due to low sugar levels.

Does kefir contain alcohol?

Yes, in very small amounts (usually less than 0.5%), resulting from natural fermentation. It’s comparable to fermented fruit juice. Due to such a low content, it’s classified as a non-alcoholic beverage and has no intoxicating effect on the body. That said, it’s best to consult a healthcare professional for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

Can you use water kefir grains to make milk kefir?

No, water kefir and milk kefir grains are separate cultures. Water kefir grains thrive on the sugar in the water, while milk kefir grains thrive on lactose. Switching them may alter or damage the culture.

How much should I drink per day?

It is recommended to start with one glass per day and gradually increase according to your tolerance, up to a maximum of 500 ml per day.

Can I give water kefir to children?

Yes, but from the age of 3. Always start with small amounts.

What should I do if my kefir doesn’t turn out well?

Make sure you follow the activation process before you start drinking kefir. Then, follow our recipes carefully. However, if you are still having trouble, contact us at naturalprobio@gmail.com or WhatsApp at 0033 659955796.

Questions about kombucha

What is the difference between kombucha and kefir?

Kefir exists in two forms:

  • Water kefir : Made with sugared water and water kefir grains (similar to small translucent crystals).
  • Milk kefir : made with milk and milk kefir grains (similar to small cauliflowers).

The three cultures are not interchangeable, and their effects, tastes and properties vary.

FAQ about orders and shipping

How long does shipping take? Orders leave our workshop within 24 working hours and reach most of Europe in 2 to 4 days. You receive a tracking email as soon as your parcel is on its way.

How do the cultures travel? Each culture ships in an airtight container with its nutrient medium: kefir grains travel hydrated and the SCOBY in its starter tea. They easily handle up to two weeks in transit, far longer than a normal delivery.

What should I do on arrival? Follow the included guide: a gentle rinse, a first activation batch, and within 24 to 72 hours your ferment runs at full strength. This FAQ and our email hello@natural-probio.com are always there if you need help.

Is there a guarantee? Yes: if your culture arrives damaged or does not start despite following the guide, we replace it for free. It is the promise we repeat throughout this FAQ because we honour it every day.
